Truck art, explained: how Pakistan’s roadside poetry became wearable

Four hand-painted truck art tote bags in bold colours

Stand beside a road in Pakistan for long enough and one will roll past: a truck covered, almost entirely, in colour. Flowers bloom across the doors, birds fan their wings along the sides, and verses of poetry run in elegant script beneath the bumper. This is truck art, and it is one of the country’s most recognisable folk traditions.

A moving canvas

Truck art turns working vehicles into rolling galleries. Painters, metalworkers and woodcarvers decorate everything from the panels to the tailgate, often with intricate patterns, bright borders and hand-lettered calligraphy. For many drivers, the truck is both a livelihood and a source of pride, and the decoration is a way of making it their own.

The language of the designs

  • Flowers and vines: celebration, growth and abundance.
  • Birds: peacocks and other birds appear again and again, often as symbols of beauty and grace.
  • Poetry and calligraphy: couplets, prayers and playful sayings that carry a message down the highway.
  • Bold borders and patterns: they frame every panel, and bright, contrasting colours make the whole thing glow.

From the road to your shoulder

We love truck art because it is joyful, handmade and unmistakably Pakistani, so our artisans bring that same spirit to everyday accessories. Our Truck Art collection takes the saturated palette, the folk motifs and the hand-painted detail of the tradition and puts it on tote bags, wallets and notebooks you can carry anywhere.

Each piece is painted by hand, so the brushwork, colour balance and small details vary from one to the next. That is exactly the point: like the trucks that inspired them, no two are quite the same.

Truck art is poetry you can see. We just made it portable.
